Retrofit Installation Methods
Joist-Bay Staple-Up (for Crawl Spaces)
Many Marin homes are built over crawl spaces. We install radiant tubing from below without disturbing your finished floors — stapled to the subfloor with aluminum transfer plates to drive heat upward.
Low-Profile Panel Systems
For slab-on-grade Eichler homes or second-story additions, we use thin panels that sit on top of the existing subfloor. These add minimal height — often under 3/4″ — and provide excellent heat output.
Manifold Upgrades
We install modern zone manifolds to replace old single-zone systems, giving you individual room control via thermostats. This dramatically improves efficiency and comfort in larger Marin homes.
Boiler or Heat Pump Upgrade
Most remodels are the ideal time to upgrade the heat source. We recommend replacing aging gas boilers with high-efficiency condensing units or transitioning to an air-to-water heat pump for full electrification.

How disruptive is adding radiant during a kitchen or bathroom remodel?
Since you’re already opening up the floor or walls, it’s the lowest-impact time to add radiant. We coordinate with your GC to install tubing before the subfloor or tile goes down. The disruption is minimal compared to adding radiant to a finished home.
My Eichler remodel is replacing the existing boiler. What’s your process?
We pressure-test the existing in-slab loops first. If they hold pressure, we flush the system and connect your new high-efficiency boiler. If any loops leak, we can often isolate or abandon them without opening the slab. Learn more about our Eichler process →
Can I add zones to my existing single-zone radiant system?
Yes. We install a modern manifold and zone valves, then wire individual thermostats to each zone. This lets you control room temperatures independently — a significant upgrade from a single thermostat controlling the whole house.
What floor coverings work over my existing radiant system?
Stone, tile, and engineered hardwood are ideal. Solid hardwood works if surface temperatures stay below 82°F. We work with your flooring contractor to confirm compatibility before installation.
