Why is the status light on my Bradford White flashing?

The LED on the gas control valve flashes a code to indicate the fault. A common code is 6 flashes, often meaning the pilot light has gone out or the flame sensor is dirty. Count the flashes and pause pattern carefully — the pattern identifies the specific issue.

What does it mean if the pilot light won’t stay lit?

Usually a thermocouple or thermal switch issue. On newer Bradford White units with the Defender Safety System®, it could also mean the air intake screen at the bottom is clogged with dust — this starves the flame of oxygen. Clean the screen first. If that doesn’t solve it, the thermocouple likely needs replacement.

How long is the warranty on a Bradford White water heater?

Most residential models come with a 6-year tank and parts warranty. Some models have 10 or 12-year options. The warranty is only valid if the unit was installed by a licensed professional — Bradford White does not cover units bought at big-box stores or self-installed.

How do I flush my Bradford White water heater?

Turn off the gas/power and cold water supply. Connect a garden hose to the drain valve at the bottom. Open the drain valve and let the water run out. To flush sediment, briefly cycle the cold water supply on and off a few times to stir the bottom of the tank. We include this in annual maintenance.
