Radiant Heating for Remodels in Novato & Marin

Remodeling your Marin home is the perfect opportunity to upgrade your comfort. Whether you're restoring a mid-century Eichler or renovating a classic rancher, we design high-efficiency radiant systems that integrate seamlessly with your new floor plan.

Tailored for Marin Remodels

Eichler & Mid-Century Retrofits

Many homes in Lucas Valley and Terra Linda are Eichlers with aging radiant systems. A remodel is the critical time to pressure-test existing loops, flush decades of sediment, or install modern manifolds that give you room-by-room temperature control.

  • Pressure test all existing in-slab loops before any boiler work proceeds
  • Flush system thoroughly — sludge in old loops destroys modern boiler heat exchangers
  • Install zone manifolds to add individual room control
  • Isolate or abandon failed loops without jackhammering the slab when possible

Hard Water Protection

Unlike San Francisco, Marin has harder water that scales up boiler heat exchangers. When we install or upgrade a system during your remodel, we include proper filtration and treatment components to ensure your high-efficiency equipment lasts for decades.

  • Magnetic dirt separator installed on every new or upgraded system
  • Inhibitor charge protects the entire heating loop from internal corrosion
  • Annual maintenance plan recommended to complement the protection
  • Water treatment pairing available for homes with very hard water

Code & Title 24 Compliance

Marin County and the City of Novato both require permits for heating system work. California's Title 24 energy code sets strict standards for new heating equipment efficiency. We handle all permitting and compliance as part of every remodel project.

  • We pull all required mechanical permits from Novato or Marin County
  • Title 24-compliant equipment selection included in every bid
  • AFUE and COP calculations provided for your building department submission
  • We coordinate directly with your GC and inspector to keep the project on track

Retrofit Installation Methods

1

Joist-Bay Staple-Up (for Crawl Spaces)

Many Marin homes are built over crawl spaces. We install radiant tubing from below without disturbing your finished floors — stapled to the subfloor with aluminum transfer plates to drive heat upward.

2

Low-Profile Panel Systems

For slab-on-grade Eichler homes or second-story additions, we use thin panels that sit on top of the existing subfloor. These add minimal height — often under 3/4" — and provide excellent heat output.

3

Manifold Upgrades

We install modern zone manifolds to replace old single-zone systems, giving you individual room control via thermostats. This dramatically improves efficiency and comfort in larger Marin homes.

4

Boiler or Heat Pump Upgrade

Most remodels are the ideal time to upgrade the heat source. We recommend replacing aging gas boilers with high-efficiency condensing units or transitioning to an air-to-water heat pump for full electrification.
