American Standard FAQ
Why is my American Standard water heater leaking?
Leaks can come from the T&P relief valve (excess pressure), the drain valve (loose or worn washer), or the tank itself (corrosion). If the tank itself is leaking, the unit typically needs to be replaced — corrosion through the tank wall is not repairable. Check the fittings and valve connections first.
How do I check the warranty on my American Standard water heater?
Locate the serial number on the rating plate sticker on the side of the tank. Enter that number on the American Standard Water Heaters website to verify your warranty status and coverage period. Warranty is only valid with professional installation — Hydroflow activates your warranty at time of install.
Why do I have no hot water?
On a gas unit, check if the pilot light is out. If it is, follow the lighting instructions on the tank. If it won’t stay lit, you likely have a bad thermocouple. On an electric unit, check your breaker panel — the water heater circuit may have tripped. If neither solves it, call for service.
What maintenance does a gas water heater need annually?
Flush the tank annually to remove sediment, inspect the anode rod every 3-5 years (replace if depleted), and check the vent system for blockages. A depleted anode rod means your tank is actively corroding — replacing it is far cheaper than a new water heater. We include all of this in our annual maintenance visit.
